Please print the letter of enrollment and keep it in your records and also I recommend keeping a copy in your car glove box.
To complete your registration, please ensure you:
1. Print out your NOTICE OF TRANSFER LETTER and take to the school you’re withdrawing from. THIS IS MANDATORY for those transferring from a public or private school setting!
2. Make a payment. You may scroll down to the bottom of this page to pay by PayPal or get mailing instructions. Make checks payable to: Lowcountry Homeschool Association.
IMPORTANT: GEORGIA RESIDENTS ONLY-You have an extra step to complete your registration. Please ensure you take this next step to be legal to homeschool in the State of Georgia.

Finally! You’re all set to start homeschooling. Once you’ve registered with Lowcountry Homeschool Association YOU DO NOT NEED TO CONTACT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT to report grades or anything. Just remember to print out the NOTICE OF TRANSFER LETTER (form and instructions are listed below) and turn that in to the school. I recommend you bring along the Letter of Enrollment as proof of registration. Georgia Residents: Please include a copy of your Letter of Intent to Homeschool for the school.
Remember, your membership allows you legal covering under Lowcountry Homeschool Association’s “third option” umbrella per South Carolina’s Code of Law Section 59-65-47 and membership with our support groups from Murrels Inlet to Midway!

WITHDRAWAL/NOTICE OF TRANSFER FORM
If you haven’t already, please be sure to withdraw your child/children if they are still currently registered under a private or public school. BRING THIS FORM WITH YOU!!!! This will ensure you do not have any unusual visitors, truant officers in particular. I personally had them visit me even after withdrawing my child several years ago.
Use this form to formalize your intent to homeschool by officially withdrawing your child/children from the school system and giving them notice of where you’re transferring to. Unlike Georgia you do not need to file any kind of “Intent to Homeschool”. Simply fill out the withdrawal form, one per child, and submit it to their previous school. I recommend bringing two copies along and having someone sign and stamp it with their official date-stamp as proof of receipt and to keep a copy for your records. Also keep any other withdrawal forms you signed as proof of withdrawal.
To withdraw from a public online school: please inform your homeroom teacher of your intent to withdraw. You will be referred to a department that will handle the withdrawal process and will also send you a prepaid postage stamp to return your books and other items.

HELPFUL FORMS FOR ALL YOUR RECORD KEEPING NEEDS
Attached are helpful forms for record keeping. These forms DO NOT need to be submitted to LHA. They are for your homeschool portfolio. I recommend keeping a few items of your child’s/children’s best school work like reports, worksheets, and tests in their portfolio as well.
You do not have to keep everything. One idea for someone who would like to keep everything (although NOT required) but has limited space is to take a picture of or scan each item, if you desire to do so, and then save it on an “external drive” of your computer.
Two styles of attendance recording. One is traditional and the other is a 180-day attendance check-off form (inserting date is optional).
Note: Field Trips & participation at a Homeschool Cooperative or Learning Community count as a day of school.

WHAT DO I TEACH?
Here is a link to helpful websites that I personally use as guidelines to teach my children. They are just that-guidelines. Never limit your kids education to just what’s listed and never hold them back if they’re interested in more! That’s the beauty of homeschooling! Remember to be flexible.
Typical Course of Study for Grades Preschool-12th:
Here is a sample of a “checklist” I recreated using the “World Book” Typical Course of Study. You can just PRINT OUT the list direct from their website.
Now that you have an idea of what your child needs to learn…you could look for a curriculum but first…
I recommend you find out what your child’s “Learning Style” is to help you select a curriculum that teaches the way your child can learn it. You can’t put a square peg in a round hold. So for example if your child is a “Visual Learner” using Khan Academy may be more beneficial and watching their educational videos rather than reading from a book.

STUDENT TRANSFERRING BACK TO SCHOOL
Firstly, thank you for allowing us to serve you and your family. Most times I will get a record request, by law however, it is the parent’s responsibility to keep all your homeschool records. LHA is not required to keep any of your records. What you can do is “Submit Grades” (see reporting info above) and print the email copy for the school. If they are not satisfied with those records and request an “official” copy from our office, you will need to email us permission to release all your records and include the school name and contact information. We will refer to what grades you submitted and send a copy to the school through mail, facsimile, or email.
GOING BACK TO PUBLIC SCHOOL?
If you plan to send your kids back to public/private school next school year I recommend you use a curriculum similar to what is being taught in the school. Currently that would be Common Core Standards which is subject to change in the next year. Align your curriculum with this standard.
Be sure to submit grades through our website and let us know in advance that you will be transferring so we may prepare any documents you’ll need to complete the transfer. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
